Why You Need To Meet Your Photographer Before Your Family Photo shoot

Did you know that the photographer will either make or break your family pictures? Weird right? If you don’t enjoy your photographer, your pictures will show it. Now, most people expect to meet their photographer before a big, important session like…your wedding. I’m here to tell you the truth: family pictures are just as precious as your wedding day. Time moves quickly, your kids grow up, and your family time with them is precious! All these reasons lead to why you should meet your family photographer before your session! So why should you meet your photographer?

Connection

Can you truly connect with someone over Facebook messenger or email? I guess it is possible, but because of recent happenings, we know it is not the same as when you see a person, well, in person.

An in person meeting really let’s you know if you and that photographer connect! Do you like their personality? Was your meeting with them natural so you feel comfortable in front of the camera? I personally also use this time to meet the little ones. Do you remember how shy you were when you were 6, 10, even a teenager feeling awkward about being grown, but not grown up enough. What about your partner? I bet they don’t love being in front of the camera, especially, with a stranger. A connection meeting changes your photographer from a crazy lady with a camera to a friend joining you on a family outing!

Ask Questions & Map Out A Plan

You will have questions about the photographer’s experience, location ideas, outfit ideas, and what comes within different packages they offer. The photographer will get to ask you questions about what works for you, for your kids, and what you want from these pictures! Use this time to ask all the questions!

TIP: Use this time to start mapping out your idea for your family session!

Get To Know The Person Behind the Small Business

After all is said and done, you understand when you choose an independent family photographer you are supporting a small business. Let me give you the kicker here: after you meet them in person, you truly understand who you are supporting! This person invested time in you to truly get to know your family’s personalities to make sure your portraits are something you love. You know what bonus you get here: next year, you know where to come back to! No need to do the hunt again and everyone in your family will be relieved to know they do not have to smile for a stranger anymore.

BONUS: When we meet in person, you always get a little treat! Maybe your family loves a local coffee spot or a local donut shop? I always bring something to you for your time!
